Recently, Puerto Rico’s Commonwealth government, in collaboration with the office in ATREVIA Colombia, celebrated in the JW Marriott Hotel Bogotá the conference Doing Business in Puerto Rico, the business meeting that set the stage to publicize the new perspective of the island as a destination for Colombian business investment. The event held the presence of more than 100 companies interested in this topic, having also a great impact at media level.
The opening of the conference was carried out by the Vice-minister of Economic and Commercial Development of Puerto Rico, Juan Carlos Suárez, who expressed the qualities of the island as an ideal scenario to boost growth of companies in the region. In his speech, the Vice-minister reiterated that, nowadays, Puerto Rico can offer Colombian companies a stable, secure and organized place to carry out business with ease and confidence. This is due to the fact that the island is going through a second great economic transformation based on diversification, incorporating traditional industries, like manufacturing, commerce and tourism, and also high impact projects like Roosevelt Roads, selected by Google for its project Loon, the Port of the Americas Post-Panamax capacity and the Trust for Research, Science and Technology.
The business meeting also served as a platform to promote the tax incentive laws of the island, since, according to Vice-minister Suárez, the country is beginning to be seen how companies and investors combine two, three until five laws taking the maximum advantage of the benefits that each one of these includes.
