Alejandro Álvarez von Gusted, representative from the Inter-American Development Bank in Europe (IADB) participated in the most recent gathering organized by ATREVIA which analyzed the future perspectives that confront the IADB.
These challenges are planted in terms of environment, productivity and macroeconomics in a year in which foreign investment fell to 14%. Additionally modest growth rates were forecasted in the region, since, according to the figures from the International Monetary Fund is estimated at 0.9%.
“If the region does not grow between 4 or 5%, the middle class will not be supported so there is a significant risk in growing inequality”, assured von Gusted speaking on the needs of Latin America and the Caribbean.
“So that Latin America would have greater productivity, it needs to improve aspects like education and innovation. For this, the IABD is centered on improving and enhancing infrastructure in the region”, he added.
The gathering was developed in front of a large group of business people with interests in both sides of the Atlantic.
