The Global Impact event took place on the 20th of October: SDG Year 4, Business Leadership in the 2030 Agenda to discuss progress towards the united nations’ goals up to 2030.
It is the most ambitious action plan for people, the planet and prosperity that involves both public and private institutions and people in general. Four years after its approval, The Global Compact has presented its report on business leadership as one of the key drivers to motivate the changes needed to make them a reality at the Official College of Riggers and Technical Architects of Madrid
Angel Pes, president of the Spanish Global Compact Network, started the day talking about transformation as a key factor in the fulfillment of the SDGs. Cristina Sánchez, project manager, went on to explain how the companies of the future will link their actions to generate positive impact at the social and environmental level. For Sanchez it is also essential to “be part of a business community where good practices can be shared”.
Asun Soriano, CEO and president of ATREVIA Spain, was in charge of moderating the discussion tables that had speakers such as Isabel Pardo, president of Adif, José A. Madrazo, Director of Construction for Spain at FCC, Clara Arpa, CEO of ARPA, Cristina Gallach, High Commissioner for the 2030 Agenda and Antonio Garamendi, President of the CEOE
“We have an obligation to disclose. Executives and employees in both private and the public sector”, said José Antonio Madrazo. Isabel Párdo argued that it is necessary to have “elements to measure the functioning of sustainable systems.
For Asun Soriano, companies “must analyze the value chain, see where we can make the change and start contributing to the 2030 Agenda by taking action, which Garamendi agreed with, “the 2030 Agenda is to put the people at the center of things and the company has to lead the implementation of the SDGs.”
