The presence of women on Management Committees of the IBEX 35 companies is lower than on the Boards of Directors of those same companies. This is the main conclusion of the study «Women in key positions of companies in the IBEX 35», which has carried out ATREVIA together with the Spanish Association of Executives and Consultants (EJE&CON) to compare the current degree of female presence on Management Committees with the same data on the Boards of Directors published in the previous «Study on the presence of women in the management bodies of IBEX 35 companies»
Specifically, of the 473 senior directors that make up the Management Committees of the different companies of IBEX 35 (October 2019 data), only 74 are women that is, 15.6% of the total. This data reveals an even a furthering away from parity, more so than in the Boards of Directors of the same companies, where women account for 23.5% of the total directors (110 women out of a total of 469 directors).
Asunción Soriano, CEO of ATREVIA, has participated in the presentation, which took place this November 13 at the E&Y office. She commented that, “The push given visibility of in the incorporation of women into the Boards of Directors of these companies has been very important, giving priority to participation in other management bodies can also have a very positive effect. In addition, I think it is even more relevant when we want girls to see examples of women in all areas of work, which is so important today if we think that their incorporation into STEM careers is declining”
Nerea Torres, president of EJE&CON has stated that “the work that is carried out by EJE&CON will not work without companies continuing to show committed and interest”.
The Management Committees, which account for most female presence continues to be Communication and Human Resources, areas that traditionally have a greater presence of women. In total, Communication and HR group 22 of the 74 women present in the Management Committees of the IBEX 35 companies included in this study. However, there has been a remarkable advance by directors of various lines of business, with a total of 14 women performing this role
The study concludes by emphasizing the importance of companies working proactively to alleviate the lack of parity in the Management Committees of The IBEX 35 companies, since they are the governing bodies that truly transfer the company’s culture and values to the rest of the workforce.
