Nuria Vilanova, president of ATREVIA, while at the Latino Impact Summit held at the United Nations headquarters during November 30th to December 1st said, “To achieve gender equity, it is important that there be changes in leadership, but more importantly, at societies core, where poverty is much more cruel to women, who suffer violence and harassment. If there is no change at the core, we will not break the glass ceiling.”
The summit, one of the few events held in Spanish at the UN each year, brought together executives, journalists, social entrepreneurs, diplomats and Hispanic philanthropists in New York. The objective of this annual meeting is to discuss the challenges and opportunities of the region in relation to the Sustainable Development Goals.
The founder of ATREVIA, who participated in a panel on gender equality, recalled that when her company started to study gender equity 10 years ago, at boards of directors of Spanish companies the presence of women was 5%, today is 20%. “Progress has been made, but to expand this progress, a social commitment is needed, it is important that public offices act, but at the same time companies must do so as well” Ms. Vilanova commented.
In addition, Ms. Vilanova alluded to the profound change that the world is experiencing, and expressed her desire for this transformation to positively affect women, “Women are optimistic and it is incredible what we have achieved in contrast to the generation of our mothers. We know that the world will be different in the coming years, but please, let it be different in regards to women “.
In the same panel, they participated together with the president of ATREVIA, Angélica Fuentes, president and founder of Angélica Fuentes Foundation, Bettina Bulgheroni, president of the Educando Argentina Foundation, Adriana Stolarz, Global Chief Officer of MRM, and Eva Hughes, president and founder of Adira Consulting.
