Carlos Ruiz-Ocaña, director at the office of ATREVIA Mexico participated as a speaker in the Good Corporate Governance Conference which was celebrated in the Executive Development Center in Mexico City. Over the three days, experts, organizations and regulatory bodies shared their vision on the legal framework that governs the rules of Corporate Governance in Spain and Mexico.
Carlos Ruiz-Ocaña’s conference with the title Good Governance and reputation of companies, laid the foundation to understand the importance of transparency and communication. Just like the director of ATREVIA said during his speech “if a company does not communicate what is happening in their organization, others will do it and with an approach that surely will not be an optimal strategy for the company. This is one of the lessons of the crisis.”
Ruiz-Ocaña’s message to participants at the conference was clear: “When we are speaking of Good Governance, the stakeholders and especially the shareholders need to have faith in the company. That is achieved on the basis of honesty and transparency in terms of communication”.
The opening of the conference was carried out by Elvira Rodríguez, president of the Spanish National Securities Market Commission (CNMV) who explained the legal framework that governs Corporate Governance and the standards of the principles of Corporate Governance.
Other themes analyzed during the conferences in Mexico City were the role of financial institutions as promoters of Corporate Governance between their clients, the key elements of how the Board of Directors and Executive Boards work and the strengthening programs of Corporate Governance in small and medium companies (SME’s), with special attention to financing mechanisms.
