The businessman and Colombian banker Luis Carlos Sarmiento received the 2nd Enrique V. Iglesias Award at the hand of the King Felipe VI which is award known for the Iberian Chapter Latin American Business Council (CEAL Ibérico) and whose objective is to reward the work of business people that enable the development of the region and the creation of the Iberian American links.
In this year’s edition, the award has fallen to the banker, builder and Colombian philanthropist Luis Carlos Sarmiento, in recognition for the work that he did during his whole career in favor of the unity between countries, business development and the Iberian American social space.
During the delivery of the award, Núria Vilanova, president of CEAL Ibérico and founder and president of ATREVIA, made a special mention to the intense work of Luis Carlos Sarmiento at the time of encouraging the social progress of all the Colombians. “It is worth mentioning the cancer hospital that is being boosted in Bogotá with input that is close to $150 dollars, a hospital that has the most advanced technology that serves tens of thousands of patients a year, therefore enhancing the investigation on the disease”, she declared.
Likewise, the president of CEAL Ibérico signaled that at the time of awarding the prize, the jury took into account in a significant way “the contribution of Mr. Sarmiento to the Colombian economic development inside and outside of the country. With only 15 years since the beginning of career and across years of intense work, today Grupo Aval is the biggest financial organization in Colombia and one of the most important in Latin America. Together the companies of the Grupo employ approximately 70,000 people”.
The event was celebrated in Palacio de la Zarzuela and held the presence of King Felipe VI, Jesús Manuel Gracia Aldaz, secretary of the State of International Cooperation and for Iberoamérica; Alberto Furmanski, Colombian ambassador in Spain; as well as Enrique V. Iglesias, president of the jury and president of the Honor of CEAL Ibérico, together with the secretary of the jury and the president of CEAL Ibérico Núria Vilanova.
