La República, one of the most important daily economic and financial newspapers in Colombia, published Núria Vilanova report titled “ICT: accessing the modern economy”, that reflects on how ICT has become indispensable to the success of entrepreneurs and business people from the 21st century.
50 years ago an athlete only needed to be born with innate qualities and good instincts to win. Today, they also need high physical preparation and, for example, high technologically designed shoes that adapt to the foot like a glove or intelligent t-shirts that absorb sweat and self-regulate. Now success cannot be achieved like in the past by just strength and instinct. Both are still necessary components but in the world where we live, they are not sufficient.
The business people and employers from the 21st century should also have good working capacity and healthy ambition, high knowledge of ICT which are tools that contribute in a decisive way to improve the productivity of a company and finally to make them more competitive. In the Latin American countries, in particular Colombia, they need this type of business people: conscious of the importance of innovation and how it is essential for these companies to use ICT to increase efficiency levels in the national market and lay the foundations for successful internationalization.
