We want to convey the great wave of solidarity that is now present in Ecuador. This arrived after the fatal earthquake that reached 7.8 points on the Richter scale last Saturday which has killed and left many injured victims as well as massive structural damage.
The tragedy gathered the whole country and the large part of the international community, who have poured in by sending humanitarian aid with the intent of slowly bringing the country back to normality.
There were many examples of solidarity that came from all over the world and our team at ATREVIA Ecuador also wanted to make a contribution, which was led by director Elena Fernández Cabrera. On Monday they sent a truck with 8 tons of food, clothes and medicine for the people affected in Calceta, Manabí and later they sent a second truck with water, groceries and basic necessities.
The trucks left in convoy with the support of the Minister of Internal Affairs and backed by the National Police Force, which was a joint action taken at the hand of Cáritas Calceta and the Manabí Residents Association in Quito. Likewise, ATREVIA is also coordinating two big aid shipments from Portoviejo to Calceta which the government organized.
It is encouraging to see that support continues to arrive from all parts of the world to help improve the catastrophe as much as possible. ATREVIA wants to send help and call for action so that Ecuador can begin to imagine a future with the help of the world.
